PS3 EYE CAM USB LENGTH HOW TO
The subject came back recently in the comments section of a post about Tmall Genie smart speaker, via a post by Michaela Merz which compares PS3 Eye against Respeaker Mic Array v2.0 ( $69), and explains how to setup PS3 Eye’s microphone array in Raspberry Pi 3. PS3 Eye was actually part of the article we published two years ago, and the camera performed well in comparison to more expensive development kits. You may even already have one, so no need to spend extra money. If you’ve already got a Raspberry Pi 3/4 board, you can get cheaper options such as ReSpeaker 4-Mic Array for $25, but nothing beats the price of Sony PS3 Eye camera that comes with a 4 microphone array and sells on Amazon for around $7.5. The price of smart audio development kits varies a lot from $500 for Intel Speech Enabling Developer Kit to $129 for an Allwinner R18-based 3-Mic Far-Field Amazon AVS Development Kit, and $99 for ReSpeaker Core v2. Why wouldn't Sony at least consider when putting in a universal port used for many devices to consider on on the back? What Would be the cost relative to the cost of other components in the system? It would be pennies.Almost exactly two years ago to the day, we published an article showing how microphone arrays performed against a single USB microphone, and the latter started to have a poor wake word detection success rate at around 3 meters array even in a silent room, and it got worse with white noise or background music, while the microphone arrays would pick up the wake word with a much higher success rate in all conditions. My xbox, wii, blu ray players etc all on the back. My desktop and laptop have the ports on the back (some on the sides). I guess my issue is that the majority of electronics out there have most of their ports on the back or on the sides. That is unless all your components are in enclosed shelves which again would make the eyetoy a pain to use as you need to leave your shelf doors at least slightly opened while using it.

And if the blue light bugs you, then you tv led light, as well as other electronics including the ps3 itself must drive you insane. While using it I'd have to leave the door of my tv stand open. To setup in the front would me I have dangling wires in front of my setup so I'd have to disconnect it when not using it. When not playing I simple hide the eye toy behind the tv and don't have to disconnect it. My ps3 is only on when I play games and watch blu rays. My television size is 50' which again I believe has become the sweet spot of the industry according to my meetings with best buy I don't imagine myself as some outlier that needs to be catered to.Īs for the blue light, I guess it depends on the application. My living room is 13x18 and I have it set up to be wider than longer so 13 feet between the couch and tv is not egregious.

I would be curious as to your source as to what is the average size? And why 6 ft is appropriate? You assume I live in some outsized home but I just read in the wall street journal this morning that the avg home size in the US is now 2,500 sq ft putting me squarely in the pack. Note that the wii bar (you have to admit that Sony is jumping on the bandwagon here) plugged into the back of the wii. Just saying that this should have been considered.Īs for the Wii sensor bar you know you can always coil it up and twisty tie it up nice and neat so that it doesn't dangle about. The xbox redesign was also designed with the kinect in mind and they put a port in the back to actually power the kinect.

Why not give you both the option of a front and back USB similar to their last design (I believe my 60GB fatty has one, i'll have to check). Heck the eyetoy has been around since the ps2, shouldn't they ahve considered this? My point is in combination with a 6foot cord, you would think (based on how they market the product) that for a permanent setup one would have the cord go behind their entertainment center (like almost any other piece of electronics in your setup) to either on top of your tv or underneath. The slim could have been designed with a port in the back with the Move/Eyetoy in mind. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast.
